I’ve always wanted to be a coach. Growing up playing sports, some of the most influential people in my life have been my coaches, and that’s probably why most of them are still my role-models. I feel like it’s my responsibility and privilege to be the same for the next generation of athletes. I’ve coached soccer, volleyball, baseball and basketball since my early teens. While playing and practising sports makes you a better athlete, the same can be said about coaching. Whether participating in the sport or coaching it, I am always looking for ways to grow and develop as a mentor.

I’ve picked coaching as my Free Inquiry blog as a way for me to continue to expand and develop my coaching practises during a time in my life where I can’t coach (the time constraints of COVID and school). I will mostly be researching how I can be a better basketball coach, but I think that a lot of what I find will be transferable to every sport… or even life. As this is a technology course, I will look into how some technology can be utilized in coaching. I will also take this opportunity to read some books and watch some documentaries that will hopefully inspire me.

Next Free Inquiry blog post, I will address the short Netflix series “The Playbook” that I am currently binge-watching. It is a five-part series that looks at 5 globally successful and inspirational coaches from all walks of sport that describe their personal “life lessons that transcend sport.”
